Facilitator - Yolanda Lapsley
Yolanda Lapsley is a native of Marion, AL. She joins the CHAMPS program with several years in the Social Services field. She is the daughter of John and Bettye Lapsley. She has one daughter, Ayanna. She is a graduate of Francis Marion High School in Marion, AL. She attended the University of Montevallo before completing her B.A. in Social Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2000. She is a member of Word Unlimited International Ministries in Hoover, AL. She was elated to join the staff of the Birmingham Abstinence Education Program.
Ms. Lapsley strongly believes that it is very important for the abstinence curriculum to be taught in the Birmingham City School System. She feels that teaching such a positive message is imperative because it teaches the young men and women a variety of things. This includes teaching the kids the importance of patience and how to develop themselves into very productive individuals before rushing into premarital sex. Ms. Lapsley’s experiences in the Birmingham City schools have been very good. She states the students have been very receptive and open to the message. She explains the feedback received from the students have been great.
